Abstract:

The two key areas of focus are firstly the future of International Standards considering both effectiveness and regulatory process, and secondly the concept of 'fair value'. These in fact link together. A Darwinian framework (the survival of the fittest) is applied to the issues raised. Note that 'accounting' in the title of the presentation is both noun and participle, i.e. what is the future for accounting, and should accounting focus on the future or the past in its reporting? This double meaning mirrors the two key areas of focus as above.
